An Update from St. Lazarus Mission

Update from Fr. Chris Herman, St. Lazarus Mission

On the 4th of April, Debora Weaver, whom most people call Grandma Weaver, asked me if she could be baptized. She has been attending services at Crossroads Care Center in Vandalia, Ohio.

Crossroads is the facility where eight of our parishioners of the Livingston Diaspora were sent and where we followed to be sure they had continued pastoral care, and when we found there was none to be had, we began a parish plant post haste. This is no small matter in the normal course of events, and considering the vicious opposition we meet in the facility from the forces of the evil one — who do not even bother any longer to hide their presence but rather reveal themselves often to parishioners, staff members, and to me and to Carol in open warfare — we are definitely taking ground and holding it, declaring to the heavens that Jesus Christ is Lord and His rule is “here to stay.” Nevertheless, the conflict is altogether bothersome and it makes for difficult slogging through the spiritual warfare, which I believe to be real and substantially unrelenting and it apparently comes at us in every sphere of our lives. My parishioners need your prayers as do all of us in the mission work.

So, getting back to Grandma Weaver…

Update on Candy and Needs

Update on Candy and needs:
When bringing dinner you will need to park in visitor parking or come into her place and get a parking pass to put on the dashboard of your car.  If possible please bring the meal in a plastic container with a lid. She can heat things up in the microwave, put the food back in the container (if not microwaveable) with the lid and put it in her walker basket to carry to sit down.  Meals are only scheduled through Thursday and possible Friday of this week.  We need many more volunteers to help!!

Please call Anita at 623-2570 or email verbalchild@gmail.com to sign up for days after that.  Anita will be out of town next week (week of Easter) so she needs to pass off the organizing duties to someone.  Please call or email her if you are interested.

Helping Candy

From Anita…

For right now, Candy would have a need for evening meals and the person bringing the meal to stay for a while to help her as needed. You can’t put a plate of food in the basket of a walker. : ) (We have tomorrow evening, Monday, covered already) Other things might be moving something out of her path for the time being, moving a chair to this or that place, making sure she doesn’t have trouble getting things out for the next day, etc. Just a little this or that. She has a number of medical personnel coming in during the week so probably won’t need help during the day at this point. If you have the time and energy and would like to bring her some lunch and chat she won’t turn you away, though. Please call before coming so that she won’t be in the middle of an appointment with the medical personnel. Also, please call Candy before visiting as she tires easily right now and may need to rest instead of visiting with people (despite her love of seeing everyone).

If you would like to help out, please call me, Anita, at (937) 623-2570 or email me at verbalchild@gmail.com.
