Help for Terri Sebree

From Barbara Zepernick:

Help is needed for Terri on Thursday, August 3. This may include light housework, bringing some prepared food, or running an errand. Please text me at 937-478-4736 if you can help.  We will probably also need  help for other days in the week of August 7-11 as well.  Thank you so much.

Sad News

From Chuck Evanhoe:

A few weeks ago, on July 3rd, Jeff Davis, the husband of one of our Dayton developers Kindra, suffered a serious stroke.

We just received notice that he’s passed away. Please hold Kindra, their children and families in your prayers during this very difficult time.

In your boundless compassion, O Lord, console all who mourn the passing of Jeff Davis.. Give to them that faith which sees in death the gate to life eternal, so that with peace and courage they may continue their course on earth until by your call they are united to their loved one gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Did you leave your coat at church?

We have a collection of jackets and coats that have been left at church over time.  They are in the kitchen to be picked up.  Please check to see if any of them belong to your family and take them home.  We will keep them another two weeks, after which time they will be given to the Salvation Army.  Thanks very much!

“A Cup of Cold Water in My Name”

Michael Evanhoe, who has faithfully kept us supplied with water for our water coolers at church, is leaving for the University of Cincinnati in two weeks.  We are looking for someone to take on the “Cold Water Ministry”.  It requires, approximately every other week, picking up the empty water jugs and taking them to Kroger’s to exchange for full ones and then bringing them to the church.  We have someone who will serve as a back-up but can’t take it on completely.  Please contact Michael Evanhoe ( ) or Dss Candy if you can serve your parish family in this way.

Prayer Request from Iraq

From Fr. Harry:

I’ve been back at the Field Hospital since July 10.  I am asking for prayer for a 4 year old boy and his young mother who were badly burned in a marketplace suicide bombing in Mosul a month ago.

The mom has been recovering well, but the little boy is still fighting for his life due to burn complications. Thank you so much!

Come-and-Go Party for Elyse Burns

Reminder — next Saturday from 3 till 9 is the “Come-and-Go” Party for Elyse Burns at the home of Anita and Chuck Evanhoe (4301 Spring Hollow Court).  Everyone is invited to drop by for a visit with Elyse who has recently come home from Taiwan and who will be going back there in a few weeks for another year of service.  In case of bad weather, the party will be cancelled.

Last Weekend for School Supplies

This weekend is the last opportunity for bringing in school supplies for the children in our community.    The need is very great.  If you can contribute any of the needed items, it will be truly appreciated.  Our community goal is to provide supplies for 500 children.  We need the following:

Pencils (boxes of 20)     Crayons     Dry Erase Markers     Scissors     Clorox Wipes

We can also use volunteers that day from 10 till noon.    Our church has been assigned Community Park (off Harshman by the AF Museum).  Please see Dss Candy if you can help.

Men’s Fellowship Breakfast

Reminder:  This coming Saturday morning at 7:30, Rich Zepernick and Mike Partin will be cooking up a huge, tasty breakfast for the men of the church.  All men are invited to this time of food and fellowship.

Further Praise Report — Jeff Davis

Via Chuck Evanhoe (from Jeff’s wife) — Good morning – I thought I would give you an update on Jeff.  He was released last night and we are finally home, which feels great.  The MRI abnormality is still a concern but the doctors just can’t get a good look at it due to the amount of blood remaining from the stroke.  The neurosurgeons want to be absolutely sure of what is there before they agree to operate.  They hav ordered a 2nd MRI in 4 weeks to try and get a better look at the “mass”.  As far as the stroke, Jeff is still showing no physical limitations or deficiencies.  He is very much himself, just a little more emotional – but considering all he has been through and where the stroke occurred, it is understandable.  His mom will be arriving from New York tomorrow and is planning to stay for a couple of weeks as he needs to have someone in the house with him all the time.  Her arrival will allow me to come back to work on Wednesday.  So far, so good….I’m just thankful to finally have him home – even if he is going to sleep a lot of the time 🙂

God is good — all the time!  Thank you, Lord!

Praise Report — Jeff Evans

From Jeff’s wife via Chuck Evanhoe:

Thought I would give you a quick update.  Jeff continues to do well and if you came to the hospital, it would be very hard for you to tell he has had a massive stroke.  HIs MRI has revealed some abnormalities that the doctors were not expecting to find.  As a result, they have cancelled the tests they had planned and a whole-body PET scan is scheduled for Monday.  There is a chance that the stroke is a result of something else.  I wasn’t expecting that.  I’m not sure at this point if we are here for the weekend or if he could be released and come back Monday.  I was hoping he would be home this weekend, but we take this one day and one test at a time.  Keep the prayers coming – we need them and are leaning on them.

Lord God, we thank and praise you!

School Supplies

As you do your shopping this weekend, why not pick up some school supplies for our Hope4Riverside collection…we need boxes of pencils, packages of dry erase markers, crayons, scissors, and Clorox wipes.  Everything must be collected in time to be dropped off at the Mad River Schools Administration Building by July 21.  Anything you can do to help will be a blessing to kids in our community who are in need of your assistance.  Thanks so much for your generosity!

Prayer Update — Jeff Davis

From Chuck Evanhoe:

Update from Kindra Evans for today – Big steps forward for Jeff in the last 8 hours.  He is awake for 20 to 30 minutes at a time and is able to talk.  He is fully aware of everything that is going on and the doctors are pleased.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

O Father, we give you thanks for your healing hand in Jeff’s life this week.  Thank you for your presence to strengthen and comfort his family.  We look forward to seeing the fulfillment of your grace in all their lives,  for the sake of your son our savior, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Prayer Request

From Chuck Evanhoe:

The husband of an Evanhoe employee, Jeff Davis , was admitted to the hospital last night due to a brain hemorrhage. He is in critical condition.  Kindra, his wife, said she didn’t know yet was was in store as far as surgery.  She, their two children and the rest of their family would appreciate thoughts and prayers.

Merciful Lord, the strength of sufferers and the comfort of those with heavy hearts, we pray that you will hear our cry to you in this time of distress for  Jeff and for his family.  We ask that you would comfort their distress, strengthen them in their weakness, relieve the suffering, and bring loving consolation and peace in this time of trial.  We thank you, O Father, in the name of your Son our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Amen

The Collect and Lessons

The Collect:    O ETERNAL God, through whose mighty power our fathers won their liberties of old; Grant, we beseech thee, that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain these liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle
Deuteronomy x. 17.

THE LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: he doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

The Gospel
St. Matthew v. 43.

JESUS said, Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
