Bulletin for Sunday, August 2

Attached is the bulletin for this coming Sunday, the 10th Sunday after Pentecost.  Please note that, due to a technical glitch, the bulletin shows “A Mighty Fortress is our God” as this week’s recessional (it was last week’s).  And, “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus” shows as a 4th communion hymn, instead of this week’s recessional.  The printed bulletin and slides on Sunday will have the correct order, but in order to get this to those who like to receive an electronic copy, we had to go with the errors this time only.  010 After Pentecost 08-02-2015

A Prayer for Chaplains

July 29, 1775, was the commissioning of the first military chaplain.  As they commemorate their anniversary, here is a prayer that we can pray for all those serving as military chaplains around the world, (a good number of whom were with us on July 12).

From the Book of Common Prayer 1928 –
O LORD God of Hosts, stretch forth, we pray thee, thine almighty arm to strengthen and protect the military of our country; Support them in the day of battle, and in the time of peace keep them safe from all evil; endue them with courage and loyalty; and grant that in all things they may serve without reproach; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer Request

Please pray for David Kinder and Jerry Carder, both of whom are going through some real difficulties and need our prayer support.  Thanks!

O God, whose fatherly care reaches to the uttermost parts of the earth; We pray that you would graciously  behold and bless David and Jerry whom we love, for whom we offer these prayers.  We ask that you would manifest your love for them in very definite ways, that they would have a revelation of your nearness to them.  Defend them from all dangers of soul and body; and grant that both they and we, drawing nearer to you, may be bound together by your love in the communion of thy Holy Spirit, and in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

Backpacking Trip

Please let Duane know by Wednesday, July 29, if you plan on going on the back packing trip, Friday and Saturday, August 7-8.  Thanks very much.

Update — Marianne Morse

From Bp. Dan —

Today Marianne saw a doctor at Sarah Cannon Research Institute in Nashville. Her Oncologist suggested this after a ct scan detected 2 spots near her lungs, and after all the doctors with whom he consulted agreed that it wasn’t necessary to biopsy the spots. The doctor at Sarah Cannon presented a clinical trial drug that may effectively treat her cancer. He explained that previous testing shows a genetic mutation in her cancer cells, and at Sarah Canon they are testing a drug that targets that specific mutated cell. The treatment involves taking an oral medication twice a day with ct scans every 8 weeks to determine its effectiveness. We will let you know when the treatment begins, and we ask for your continued prayers that God will use this to heal Marianne.

Father, I pray in the mighty Name of Jesus that You would comfort and relieve Marianne during this course of treatment.  I ask for peace and trust in Your working in her life and I ask that You would comfort our Bishop  as he cares for his wife.    I pray that by the power of Your Holy Spirit You would heal Marianne.  Your Word tells us that You are a sun and a shield and I pray that You would shield her from any harmful side effects of medication, that the medicine would work directly on the problem and that there would be an outcome of hope and healing which would bring glory to the Name of Your Son, in whose Name I pray.  Amen

School Supply Sunday!

School Supplies

This coming Sunday is the last day to bring in school supplies for the Great School Supply Distribution in which the Riverside churches are cooperating with the Mad River School Board.  Bring your supplies Sunday so that they can be blessed and prayed over before being taken to the Fire Department for sorting and distribution.  If you would prefer, you can give a check made payable to Mad River Schools and marked “School Supplies”.  Thank you so very much for your generous hearts.  We live in a community filled with families who do not enjoy the blessings which some of us take for granted.  Working together with other churches is an awesome way to demonstrate the love of God to so many!

Parish Picnic this Sunday!

This coming Sunday (July 26) our Paripatetic Parish Picnic will travel to Thomas A Cloud park on Brandt Pike across from the Sonic.  Come to church in picnic clothes and bring food for your family and enough to share.  We’ll set everything out potluck style.  Water, lemonade, and disposables furnished.  For the young and the young at heart, the Splash Pad will be available, as well as any games or sports for which you bring along the equipment!

Growth Group This Friday Evening

Just a reminder that the Growth Group meets this coming Friday (July 24)  at 6:30 pm at Terri Sebree’s home — 5420 Split Rock Road.  Please plan to bring a side dish to share and let Terri know that you are coming.  (477-9263)  Everyone is welcome.

Service for Sunday, July 12

A reminder to all that we will host approximately 120 Anglican Chaplains for their festal Eucharist this coming Sunday at 10:30.  The service will be glorious and will have a baptism, confirmation, and ordinations as well as Holy Communion.  The Chaplains will be staying for a lunch and a meeting following.   There won’t be the usual carry-in lunch, however.   COH folks who aren’t involved with serving/cleaning up/childcare may want to plan to go to Wendy’s or elsewhere.  We are so grateful that God has given us an opportunity to minister to and bless  these men and their families who are serving our Lord and our country.  Hope to see you on Sunday morning!

Who’s Up For Hiking Next Week?

The second annual hiking trip to Hocking Hills State Park (Old Man’s Cave) is Saturday, July 11.  We will meet at the church parking lot at 7:15 am to carpool.  Bring a sack lunch to eat on the trail and something to share for a cookout meal for dinner at the end of the hike.  Meat to grill, condiments, buns, paper plates, napkins and utensils will be provided.  Please let Duane know if you plan on coming.

Prayer Request – Marianne Morse

From our bishop:

On Monday, June 29, Marianne had a CT scan that showed new malignant lymph nodes near her lungs. Her chemo was completed in December. The oncologist is recommending a biopsy before treatment decision is made.  We ask for your prayers as we consider more radiation or clinical trials.

Confident of God’s goodness and love,

Dan and Marianne Morse
