Urgent Prayer Request

URGENT:  Many of you are praying for our friend and employee, Willy Sebatware, who recently left to go back to his native Congo to begin the process of building schools in the war ravaged nation. We received word this morning and was it confirmed this afternoon that he has been arrested.  The person I spoke with said this is a very grave situation and prayer is the only hope he has, at this point, of ever being released.  Please pray for Willy, his wife, Lillian, and his five children who are here in the states.  Karen Burns

Almighty God, ruler of the universe, king of all nations, we pray for our brother Willy in the Congo.  We trust Your great and magnificent love for him to bring him through this most difficult situation, we pray for Your mercy and Your goodness.  We ask that You would intervene in the natural realm in Your supernatural way to provide a way of escape for Willy and to bring glory to the name of Jesus Christ.  We also ask Your divine protection for Lillian and the children and ask that You would send Your Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to be their strength and consolation during this time.  Give them that peace which the world cannot give and turn their eyes and minds and hearts toward You.  We thank You, Father, for hearing us, as we pray in the strong name of Jesus Christ, and trust in the power of Your Holy Spirit to bring a great and wondrous victory.   Amen

Mark Your Calendar – Carry-In Next Week

School has now begun, vacations and mission trips are now in the history books and we’ve decided it’s time to reconnect with each other.  Next Sunday, September 9, immediately following the 10:30 a.m.m Eucharist, we will have a Carry-In Dinner together.  Please join us and bring a main dish and a side dish or dessert to share.  We will provide table ware, lemonade, and water.

Prayer Request

From Carol Herman:

Yesterday, I spoke with Susan Current.  She and her family live in a suberb near Biloxi, MS and are in an area that will be affected by hurricane Issac.   She was asking for prayer for  safety for family and property.  She also asked for prayer for her community.

Almighty God, creator of life, we pray for the safety of Susan and Greg Current and for all who are in the path of Hurrican Isaac.  You display Your mighty power in the universe and yet You still the storms of life.  We ask that You would still the storm of anxiety for the Currents and all who watch and wait during this time. We pray for their comfort, that You will sustain them and hold them close in safety, through the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ who with You and the Holy Spirit, reign one God forever and ever.   Amen

Men’s Prayer Breakfast

All men of Christ our Hope are invited to the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Saturday morning September 1, at the church, at 7:30 a.m.   This is a great time of fellowship and prayer around some fine breakfast fare.  Breakfast and prayer are over before 9:00, so you can start your day well-fed both physically and spiritually.  Come join the men of the church!

Resetting the Church Tomorrow

We need a few strong arms to help reset the music and altar area of the church tomorrow following an event tonight.  In particular, the altar requires two good men (of any age!)  If you can help by showing up at about 8:45 a.m. we would really appreciate it….and I could probably be talked in to making an Egg McMuffin run if that helps!

A Prayer for our Nation

Several people have expressed the desire to pray for our country.  I found this prayer in the 1928 Book of Common Prayer which I think expresses beautifully our desires as Christians in this country.  Please feel free to make it a part of your own daily devotion.

ALMIGHTY God, who has given us this good land for our heritage; We pray that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad to do your will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought here from many nations. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in your Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to your law, we may show forth your praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, do not allow our trust in you to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

You Are Invited

You are invited to attend the Ordination of Matthew Colvin to the Diaconate on Saturday, August 25, at 5:00 p.m. at Trinity Reformed Episcopal Church, Mason, OH.

Many of you will remember meeting Matt and his wife Sora when they came to our parish to share about their upcoming ministry in the Phillipines.  This is a joyful occasion for them as Matt is ordained to the Diaconate and we have been invited to share in it with them.  A reception will follow the service.

If you need any additional information, please contact Fr. Chris.

Setting Up for Church

Greetings all —

We are blessed to have another event in our building on Saturday night.  As you probably know, these events contribute greatly to our financial picture and are an incredible blessing.  The one down side is that we must reset the church on Sunday morning.  If you can come at 8:45-9:00 tomorrow morning to lend a hand, it would be greatly appreciated!  Let’s not leave it to the faithful few who are there early to make coffee and prepare music — many hands make light (and quick!) work.

Thanks very much!

PRAISE REPORT!

Posted by Andrea Burns Smith:  So ya know that thing called miracles?! 🙂 God is GOOD! Robert’s bone marrow is clear and his neutrophills (the thing they are monitoring) is 800!! 500-700 is the healthy range. In the words of the doctor “he is recovering!”

Almighty, all powerful Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for Your healing touch on Robert.  We praise and thank You for Your great goodness and mercy toward this little child of Yours.  We give you all the praise and all the glory.  May Your name be forever praised.  Amen

Prayer Request

From Karen and Paul Burns:

Willy Sebatware, who has worked with Arbor Experts for the past two years and also serves as a pastor to the African community in Dayton, has gone to his native Congo to begin the process of building schools in the war ravaged nation. Willy has had a passion for youth in his home country and has worked in recent years to raise money for building schools in his homeland.  Please keep Willy in your prayers as he seeks approval with government officials to build schools and to be well received in the areas he plans to build. Also, pray for future success in building and properly running the schools once they are built.  His family remained in Dayton while he travels for the next forty-some days.

Almighty God, Lord of the Universe, we thank You for faithful servants with hearts to share Your love.  We thank you for our brother Willy and for his desire to build schools in the Congo.  We pray that You will prepare the way with government officials and soften their hearts to be responsive to Willy’s request.  We ask, in the Name of Jesus Christ, that the enemy be bound from interfering in any way.  We pray for safe travel and for Willy to remain healthy throughout the trip.  We thank You for divine protection for his family as they wait for his return and we ask that You would bring him home safely with incredible and miraculous results.  We ask that You would be pleased to make Your ways known to many, many families in the Congo through this ministry, and that it would bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ, in whose mighty Name we pray.  Amen

Moving Assistance Update

The date for the Slone family move from Xenia to Springfield is Saturday, August 18 — not this coming Saturday.  Sorry for the confusion.

Prayer Request

Robert Smith (Paul and Karen Burns’ grandson) had blood tests done last week in Sioux Falls and found that his neutrophils were
at 92, so the doctor ordered a bone morrow biopsy, to be done tomorrow. He will be sedated for the test. Please pray for him and for a good outcome

Oh Father, we know that You love Your little son Robert even more than we do, and that He is in Your loving care.  We pray that these tests which he is enduring will bring knowledge to the doctors and that You will give them wisdom to know how best to care for this little one.  We pray for Andrea and Dave as they wait in hope.  We ask You to sustain them, to comfort them and to keep them encouraged that, in Your time and in Your good will, they will see Robert well and happy.  We ask for Your divine healing in every part of Robert’s body — that his life may continue to be a praise to Your glory.  And we ask all of this through the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your only Son our Lord.  Amen

Prayer Request

From Jeff Brown:

Tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11:30 I will be undergoing surgery on my left eye to remove my lens with an advanced cataract and receive an implant lens.   I would greatly appreciate your prayers for a successful outcome. Even with a successful implant, I will still have issues balancing vision in both eyes because my right eye is very nearsighted and correction in my right eye will not be possible with glasses.  I’m looking at wearing a contact lens in my right eye and using reading glasses, all of which may take some time to get used to.  I wanted to get this all done in the summer so as not to impact my teaching this coming year, and that is my ultimate prayer – that I can see well enough to teach.

Oh, Lord Jesus, healer of our souls and bodies, we pray for our brother Jeff as he undergoes eye surgery, asking that You would make your presence known to him in the compassion and concern and love of those who surround him.  We pray that his vision will be made whole and complete and that his recovery will be quick and without pain.  We thank you for our brother and thank You that You continually hold him in Your love.  We ask these things in Your name, Lord, knowing that our heavenly Father hears and undertakes through the power of His Holy Spirit.  Amen
