Thanks for all the work on the Synod

To everyone who worked, prayed, cooked, or volunteered to help with this year’s Synod, the local committee wants to extend a huge THANK YOU for all you did. We have received many compliments on the welcome that people received, on the warmth of the hospitality, and on how smoothly things ran. There are way too many of you to try to mention every name — some helped in big ways, some in little ways, but the overall effect was fantastic!

We are very grateful to each and every one of you for helping with cooking, organizing meals, manning registration, policing the area, serving in worship services, providing warm and friendly greetings and in general extending incredible hospitality and assistance.

May God’s richest blesses be yours,

Dss Candy, Dcn Dave, Andy Figueroa

The series will be on Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m. beginning October 10 at the Caldwells’ (145 Huffman Ave.) and it will run for 7 weeks ending November 14. Please bring snacks to share.

CKAC:update on Marianne Morse

Subject: update on Marianne Morse

Bishop Dan accompanied me this morning for the first appointment with oncologist, Dr. Brian Hemphill. He’s recommending another CAT scan of the lung in 3 months. If there is any change or growth in the spot, he’ll address it at that time. He has also ordered untrasounds of my thyroid, kidneys, and left breast in an effort to rule out cancer in those places.

Bladder cancer is still the primary concern. Tomorrow I’ll have another re-section of one of the tumors to determine its full extent. The pathology report on that will indicate what treatment they’ll recommend.

I am very thankful for the good care I’m receiving from the medical community here. Dan and I are overwhelmed by the love and concern you all have expressed through prayers, letters and gifts. God has certainly given us the gift of His peace.

Taiwan Prayer Request Update/Thanksgiving

Hello all,

Thank you for your prayers: Bethany informed me that Theresa, her teammate in Taiwan, is doing much better. I do not have any more details than that, but Bethany said she would be sending an e-mail update soon. Thank you for your prayers and thank God for answering them! (If you did not see the first e-mail I sent, I posted it below.)

-Elyse

My friend, Bethany Williams, has asked me to pray for her teammate. Bethany is serving as a missionary on the island of Kinmen, off Taiwan.

Her teammate is suffering from a chronic stomach disease that has rapidly gotten worse these past few months. Her body does not respond correctly to food – when she eats, it wreaks havoc on her body. Her body is now "eating itself" and she is starving to death. She has been taken to Taiwan and is being seen by several doctors. Please pray for her, her family and the team in Kinmen. The team especially needs peace and wisdom in how to proceed and deal with the cirucmstances. We are asking that God would heal her, but that above all He would be glorified.
Thank you,
Elyse

St. Michael’s service at CKAC

Dear Karla,

I know many of you go to Evening Prayer, but Fr. Wayne asked me to send this invitation a couple weeks ago, and it completely slipped my mind. Would you forward it to COH, in case anyone may be interested?

All are invited! Tomorrow CKAC will host a potluck meal at 6 p.m. The St. Michael and All Angels Holy Communion service will follow at 7 p.m.

Prayer request update: T. Sebree

Terri Sebree’s Mom has been released to a rehab facilty in Richmond following her cardiac surgery.

Terri asked that we pray concerning her Mom’s extreme fear and anxiety regarding her health and her husband’s health.

Terri begs for your prayers for this situation. Also pray about Terri’s ability to take leave from work.

Thanks for everyone who is bringing meals to Christ the King. It is a big help!

Prayer Walk

Dear COH,

Our second prayer walk in the Forest Ridge neighborhood will be this Saturday, Oct 2nd, 8-9 am. Meet at the Forest Ridge Gazebo.

I invite you all to come out and pray for the neighborhood. Please post a blog comment if you have any questions.

If praying regularly for the neighborhood is on your heart, let me know, especially if the 8 am time on Saturday mornings is not a good time for you.

Blessings,

Jeff

Life Chain 2010

Life Chain is next weekend! We are partnering with Christ the King to again be part of this event.

The exact location is still to be announced – but our group will meet on Stroop Rd. Mark Perry will be there with the signs. The event starts at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon on October 2nd.

Life Chain
The first Sunday in October each year from 2 to 3:30 pm, many local Christians and their clergy will participate in one of the Miami Valley’s largest pro-life events by standing along the sidewalks of both sides of East Stroop Road in Kettering to form a “Life Chain” nearly 2½ miles in length. This national, annual event draws 1,800 people from over 70 area churches and pro-life organizations in the Miami Valley each year. And, Life Chain draws hundreds of thousands of people in 1,200 Life Chains across the country and Canada every year.

Please email Mark Perry or Karla Herman to RSVP for this event

Peru mission trip by Steve Shepard

From: Steven Shepard <churchplantinginternational@gmail.com>
Subject: Peru

Believers in Christ,

Please find attached my letter concerning my upcoming trip to Peru where we’ll be doing 3 conferences. This year especially, for some reason, I find myself with fewer places that I feel like I can go to present this need for assistance. Thank you all for reading this, praying for the trip and your consideration in helping us to fulfill this mission trip.

Blessings,

URGENT prayer request

I just talked to Terri Sebree who is driving to Richmond, Indiana, where the Oxford,
Ohio hospital is Care-Flighting her mother. The doctors in Oxford believe her
mother is having a heart attack and are sending her to Richmond for a cardiac
catheterization and tests. This is especially difficult right now since Terri's dad
isn't doing very well and won't have his wife with him. Please pray for Terri, her
parents, and her children.
O Lord, who feels the pain of the world, and looks upon all sick and suffering
persons with pity and mercy, enfolding them with thy love; Grant that in the midst
of pain they may find thy presence; to doctors and nurses grant tender hearts and
healing hands; and give health again in body and soul, for thy tender mercy's sake.
Amen

Prayer request update for Terri Sebree’s father and family

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

My father’s health is continuing to decline and his passing is approaching, but it is not immediately imminent yet. He is aware of this and is very weak and tired. He is able to walk about in their home with a walker and assistance of a caregiver.

Please continue to pray for additional caregivers. God has provided 2 wonderful Christian ladies, but one has to return to her previous assignment. Also, I am asking for strength and encouragement for Mom, and for however else the Lord may lead you to pray. There are so many details to be taken care of that it can be overwhelming.

Also, I just discovered a wonderful prayer that is very fitting for my Dad at this time. It is in our prayer book on p.508, at the top of the page. I continue to pray for his peace and comfort.

Thank you very much for your prayers and I miss seeing you.

Love,

Terri Sebree
