Film, Philosophy and Faith

Come out this evening and join us in a debate!! Well not exactly, Film, Philosophy & Faith is presenting a movie this Sunday Evening featuring a debate between Douglas Wilson and Christopher Hitchens. Douglas Wilson is Pastor of Christ Church in Moscow, Id and Christopher Hitchens is one of the leading "new" Atheists in the world today. This should make for a very lively evening. We have been learning in our Adult Sunday school time about defending the faith. This I think, will inspire you to a greater defense against a new breed of atheists.

We will be showing the film at the Abshear’s house, at 6:30 pm. If you can bring a snack to share for some fun fellowship to follow.

Hope to see many of you there!!

CKAC: Help with driving Mrs. Harvey

Dear family,

As many of you know, a new family is arriving from Congo this Wednesday. I’ve received some generous donations of furniture. I have a truck to borrow, and movers (I think), but I have never driven a pick-up truck (!). I’m looking for a driver who has 2 or 3 hours to give on Tuesday and/or Wednesday (day or evening). Or, if you have a truck, and would like to help, more hands make lighter work.

Thank you so much!

CKAC: missing woman prayer request

Through our homeschool loop:

Yes, this was on the news this evening. Her name is Tiffany Tehan and she was on a shopping day Saturday when she didn’t return. The article and picture are at http://www.whiotv.com/news/23188756/detail.html.

Subject: [peachdiscuss] Prayer request (missing woman)

There is a young mom from our church who disappeared yesterday in this area. She last spoke with her husband around 10 yesterday morning and was out for a day of shopping . She has not returned home. Her car was located this morning at a Indian Riffle park with a flat tire and keys locked inside).
Her name is Tiffany and her husband is David. They have a 1 year old daughter. Please be in prayer for them and for her safe return to her family. If you are among my facebook contacts, I have a picture of her posted there as well.

Seeking Your 2010 Prayer Walk Ideas

It was great to see so many folks last night at the BBQ and for prayer.  Thanks to Karla and Greg for your hospitality!

I forgot to announce something.  Please put this on your calendar:

Family Prayer on Wednesday May 12th is coming up, and one really cool “tradition” we have at Christ Our Hope is the annual prayer walk.   We will meet at the Carol and Chris Herman’s house at 4170 Beech Tree Ct.  Phone: 236-1424 at 7 pm just like we normally do.  We want to look to you for ideas to make this time extra special.  Let me give you some background to set the mood and to help you begin to be creative:

Wednesday, May 12th is a rogation day.  That’s a fancy word that comes from a Latin verb, rogare, and it means “to ask.”  The idea springs from the Gospel of John, Chapter 16, Verse 24: “Ask and you shall receive.”  A common feature of “ask” days in former times was a ceremony called “beating the bounds.”  The idea was to have the parishioners proceed around the boundaries of the parish and ask God for its protection and blessing in the coming year.  This year, as God is forming Christ Our Hope, it is a poignant statement of our purposed intent to co-labor with Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit to extend the Kingdom of God and spread the gospel of true Hope, which is found only in Christ Jesus.

This year we could walk as we did last year, and that would be excellent.  Or, we could also be a bit more elaborate if that is something you want to do.  So, if you are so inclined, please give your ideas or suggestions to Dss. Candy Jacques by May 1st.  Her email address is candy.jacques@evanhoe.com.
